The Home Energy Saving Solutions logo design was created in early 2011, and incorporates a rich & vibrant green, as well as an energy efficient bulb as a substitution for the letter "E" of "energy" in the company name. We initially began working with Home Energy Saving Solutions on the logo design as part of a greater project that included the logo, and then designing and developing a website based on that logo design to inform customers about their services, home energy efficiency improvements, home energy audits for customers in the Austin, Texas, area.

We were challenged on this project to create a simple, icon, and memorable logo that conveyed the concepts of "Home", "Energy", "Efficiency", and "Environmental Improvements" for homeowners as well as green energy solutions. Green became the obvious color choice, but we worked closely with the client to dial that color choice in to something bold, bright, and easily readable on both light and dark background colors. Other elements within the logo, like the CFL bulb, by itself does not read as a specific letter, but within the logo design, this energy efficient iconic graphic takes on new meaning, and clearly conveys the energy message that is core to this companies values and services. Additionally, a roofline graphic element was extended from the top of the first letter of the company name, and extends across the entire logo to create the effect of a home building protecting interior elements, like the energy efficient bulb. The termination of that ...

The Visualist Blog site launched in January, 2011, and serves as a visual computing technology blog for Denver-based Christopher Jaynes, the CTO for Mersive, which he founded in 2004. The goal of this Wordpress customization site design was to create a rich visual computing and information resource, along with post discussion and social media integration, all while carrying over branded colors and elements from existing Mersive brand standards into the design. The Mersive.com company website features a prominent link to The Visualist Blog in the main site navigation, so the user experience was a significant consideration during the wireframe and creative process. Another major consideration was the ability to add frequent posts and other content to the site, so we developed and coded this site leveraging the Wordpress platform and administrator interface.

For the banner area of this site, we chose a large, bold, and modern font with a letterpress effect, and subtle gray to white gradient that intentionally overlaps with the main content region, slightly truncating the bottom of each letter, and creating a very connected look between the top and body regions of the page. To add depth and incorporate Mersive brand colors, we created a green light-beam effect behind this bold headline text to convey the visual and technology aspects of this blog in an abstract way.

Secondary color choices beyond the green of the graphic banner area allow for small additions of color throughout the page on links, buttons, and comment notifications. Custom fonts were also used for ...

This Boulder web design project for the Colorado Cross Classic event website was created to for the annual Cyclocross race, which takes place in Boulder, Colorado, and attracts professional riders from all over the state and beyond. This years event was supported by sponsors like Webroot, 1st Bank, Oskar Blues, VeloNews, and many other local Boulder area businesses.

The primary goal of the Colorado Cross Classic website / Boulder web design project was to inform riders about the 2010 event, including course maps and event info, online registration, event news and updates, as well as prominent placement of sponsor and partner logos for this Boulder event. To help convey the location and setting of this event, we chose to use a large image of the iconic Boulder Flatirons as the site background, and then blurred the image to create a sense of distance and depth on the page. The additional scrolling image banner on the website home page further highlights the nature of this Cyclocross event, and allows for graphic banner drivers to allow visitors to easily register for the Boulder event.

This Boulder web design project leveraged the popular Wordpress platform, which allowed us to hand off the site and its content to CCC event staff for ongoing updates, news posts, and addition of sponsors and other event info as race day approached. The powerful Wordpress admin interface allowed for fast and easy site updates by multiple website editors, and connections to social sites, like Facebook & Twitter, were also very ...

The HeidiWicks.com website was designed to clearly communicate Heidi's personalized approach to Date Coaching and Matching, while incorporating her existing logo and branding colors throughout the site. This is a Wordpress driven site, with a high level of customization to drive page functionality, as well as a customized Wordpress theme, custom page templates, and a remodeled Wordpress admin to make managing the content very easy for Heidi into the future. Custom content types were created within Wordpress to handle templating and style formatting for client testimonials, news announcements, blog posts, and page content updates.

In addition to the Wordpress customization, we integrated the contact form on the site with Heidi's existing SalesForce.com account, so that all lead generation through her website is automatically synced with Sales Force, and she can more easily manage her clients and new leads going forward. We also migrated her existing Blogger blog posts into the new site structure and dating blog, which can all be maintained from the Admin panel and CMS that Heidi now uses to manage all her site content.

We kicked off this project with an informal meeting in Boulder over coffee, where Heidi described her hopes and requirements for the new site, as well as her existing online content that she wanted to incorporate into this new site. We presented several site design variations to help guide the conversation and make decisions about overall layout, look and feel, as well as high level site functionality and color choices. Once we collectively narrowed those ...

The goal for The Prairie Club project was to take their existing flash website and site functionality, and convert it into an SEO friendly HTML website with a custom built content management system. The primary challenge was to maintain the clients' current branding, look & feel, and overall user experience using only HTML, CSS, and Javascript libraries.

Full flash websites are inherently bad for search engines, and generally don't produce high results in organic search listings. By converting this site into HTML for the Prairie Club, not only are search listings and organic results greatly improved, but they are able to manage the site content via the custom Content Management System (CMS) and backend database that were built.

The Anton Racing Website re-design project was completed for this NASCAR Camping World Series Team in March 2010. We also designed and built their original website, but were asked to upgrade the site and modernize the site design before the start the 2010 race schedule. The client request included being able to make site updates easily and quickly from the track on raceday so that the race and qualifying results could be instantly posted to the site, as well as dynamic photo gallery integration, Content Management, and Search Engine Optimization.

For this client, we opted to build the site entirely on top of WordPress and leverage the easy to use front end interface that they have developed for managing site content, as well as the option to add plugins, and other applications onto the site. The left column on the homepage is the dynamic "news" feed, which they can easily update from the track using only a cell phone to send info to the site, which will format and post it automatically. They can also login as usual and add those updates.

The Photos and Videos throughout the site are powered by Flickr, and are automatically pulled in from the Anton Racing Flickr account as soon as new photos are uploaded by members of the team at the track. Additionally, all the other pages and content on the site can be managed through WordPress directly, giving the team the ability to change content, or even create new pages whenever they need.

We met Rusty Partridge, owner of Black Dog Timberworks, through a client referral in 2009. Black Dog Timberworks is located in western Maine, and the scope of the project was to create a great looking logo, and then build a website that highlighted his custom timberframe structures and others services that he could manage the content of going forward. Moving into the online realm was a big step for Black Dog Timberworks, but we were both convinced that with a great site, highly optimized for Search Engines, his business would certainly grow in 2010 and beyond.

Black Dog Timberworks builds hand-crafted, custom timberframe homes, barns, and structures, and we had to convey that craftsmanship and unique detail in the design of the website. To accomplish that, we decided on a highly stylized design that incorporated warm, earthy colors, wood grain and rustic textures, subtle gradients in some of the graphics and a script-like customer testimonial font, while still keeping a modern "shine" on certain design elements.

It was a project requirement that a Content Management System (CMS) be available to Black Dog Timberworks as well so that they could make changes and update the site with new photo content as they complete projects this coming year. Here is what Rusty said about the the CMS we have them using:

"you did a great job in setting things up for me to
update and change easily. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that." - Rusty Partridge

This Website Design project for East Coast Resurfacing, based in Western Massachusetts, is actually the second website project we have executed for ECR. This time, we updated the look and feel of the site to accommodate wider browser widths that are standard now, as well as a large Search Engine Optimization push to get the site to rank higher and generate more business for ECR in 2010.

East Coast Resurfacing does Concrete Floor etching, Epoxy Floor coatings, and offers other flooring solutions for large industry, commercial buildings, and even huge government projects at military installations around the East Coast. For this project, it was important that we improve their online visibility, as well as convey a professional and trustworthy corporate image and brand.

The website re-design portion of this project was limited to refreshing the look and feel of the site by going with a wider web page display/layout, incorporating their existing logo, and implementing a Content Management System that would make the content easy for them to update and change in the future. In addition, we suggested adding a project Blog to the site that they could update bi-weekly with current project updates, progress, photos, and other info to really show that they are an industry leader and knowledgeable experts in their field.

Webroot Threat Blog site design and implementation for Webroot Software, Boulder Colorado. This Blog is actually a Wordpress.com hosted blog, as opposed to hosting the blog themselves, which called for creative solutions to get the Blog design and functionality setup as needed. The greatest challenge was not being able to edit and work with the Wordpress HTML template files to control the layout and look and feel of this site.

After initial rounds of design comps and feedback cycles with Webroot, the design was finalized, and using only uploaded images in combination with CSS and built in Wordpress widget functionality, the site was implemented and launched in late-March, 2009.

The Webroot Threat Blog receives a significant amount of web traffic, and continues to be a an invaluable resource for Spyware, Malware, online threats, and overall computer/PC security.
